Operation Thank You
It’s going to be a long summer hellatus, but let’s celebrate getting a Season 8!
At the CW Upfronts* on 5/17/2012, CW chief Mark Pedowitz mentioned that he got the most fan mail for renewing Nikita. My first thought? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Let’s show the amazing Mr. Pedowitz some fandom love! Not only is he responsible for renewing Supernatural, he made sure that Jared and Jensen were at the Upfronts this year. He also moved the show to Wednesday night to follow what he considers to be the most important new show the network has, Arrow.
Here’s how to let him know how much we appreciate him:
Send a card or letter thanking him for renewing and supporting Supernatural.
Any kind of card or letter will do. One easy option is to visit Snapfish, where you can personalize one with images and text before mailing it directly to his office. I created a custom card using fandom art! It turned out beautifully.
If you do something similar, please credit the artists. On the back of the card there is an option to add something. I handled attribution by listing the work and the artists by adding their deviant art accounts. Here’s how I cited the picture on this post.
Example: Parade by http://x-uchiwa-x.deviantart.com/
I’ve even found a coupon for a free card, you’ll only pay for shipping. Visit http://www2.snapfish.com/snapfish/fe/photo-cards/thank-you-cards and use coupon code “ONEFREECARD”.
Here’s the details:
Mail your thank you card to:
Mark Pedowitz
The CW Television Network
3300 W. Olive Avenue
Burbank, CA 91505
We’ll keep this going until the kickoff of Season 8 so it has time to spread. Our campaign will only be effective if you spread the word, so please post and share to all your social networks! Our Twitter feed is @spnng and we are also on Facebook where you can share your cards!
*Upfronts: In the North American television industry, an upfront is a meeting hosted at the start of important advertising sales periods by television network executives, attended by the press and major advertisers. It is so named because of its main purpose, to allow marketers to buy television commercial airtime “up front”, or several months before the television season begins. - Wikipedia (We’ll be tweeting those sponsors next season!)

This is the card I made for Operation Thank You thanking Mark Pedowitz for Season 8! I used Snapfish as the project suggested. Check it out and send your own! http://spnng.tumblr.com

OPERATION VALUE ADD- We all love Supernatural but somehow the ratings just don’t bear that out. Maybe a lot of fans DVR it or rent it on iTunes or Amazon after it plays. Whatever the reason, the one thing a show needs to survive is advertisers. Whether the ratings are kickass or not shouldn’t matter if the most important measure of all works in our favor.
What is that measure? It’s called Return on Investment or ROI. It’s the amount of positive action a commercial generates. So if it’s iPad2 for example, they consider the ad a success if people who see the ad purchase one.
All publicity is good publicity so another metric of successful advertising is called brand awareness. That means how many people know your product or services by name and have a positive feeling about it.
Where do we come in?
What if every time an advertiser sponsored Supernatural, they got a value add. What if advertising during the show had the side effect of thousands of SPN fans tweeting about their product in a positive way? What if we also supported business that sponsored Supernatural by choosing their service or product? That would be a powerful value add. Get an ad during the show, reap a ton of positive social media mentions for free, and get a built in customer base for their products. I know if I was trying to reach the 18-45 demo, and I discovered that along with the normal results from my advertising, I’d get this huge social media bump, I would be all over it.
So our mission? Note the advertisers during the show or check out theAdvertiser’s page after the show. Tweet positive things about the company. Thank them for advertising on Supernatural. Buy their products and services.
Let’s make advertising on Supernatural a huge benefit so that advertisers realize an active and engaged fan base can do much more for them than numbers.
Are you with me?
If so, follow the SPNNG blog, twitter (@spnng) or Facebook page, Retweet and Reblog this message. Recruit your friends. The more people who participate, the bigger impact we’ll have. Check out the Advertisers page and get started any time. Make sure you mention Supernatural. Here are some example tweets:
I hate fast food but I love #McDonald’s because they sponsor #Supernatural. Hello Big Mac!
Wasn’t sure about seeing “Abduction” but then they advertised during Supernatural. I am so there!
Hopefully these help. If you need more ideas just use the Ask, email at spnnationalguard@gmail.com ot tweet @spnng.
Reblog and Recruit!

We’ve recently discovered that the new CW President, Mark Pedowitz is quite a sweetheart. He mentioned in the press that Season 7 is not intended to be the last for Supernatural provided ratings are sustained. We <3 the sound of that and we’d like to give Mr. Pedowitz a little taste of fandom love. Operation Valentine involves sending him a snail mail card or letter with a Valentine Theme thanking him for his support. You can make your own, buy one at Hallmark or use this nifty online tool to create a custom card using your own images or art. They will even put the stamp on for you. This code entitles you to one free card:CARD4U
You’ll only pay for the postage.
Mail your Valentine to:

We’ll keep this going until the kickoff of Season 7 so it has time to spread. Pass it on!
